A VERY FINE DERBY PORCELAIN CABINET PLATE, CIRCA 1815 PAINTED BY THOMAS STEELE.
Exquisitely decorated with a wide gilt border with alternating anthemion and scrolling vines, and with a central octagonal panel painted with an arrangement of fruit including grapes, cherries & strawberries. Bearing Derby mark under.
The famous fruit painter of the period Thomas Steele worked at the Derby & Rockingham porcelain factories before joining Minton in 1832, remaining there until his death in 1850.
