An Unusual Gilded Bronze Inkwell in the Form of the Imperial State Crown, English, circa 1840
A rare and highly unusual gilded bronze inkwell modelled in the form of the Imperial State Crown, made in 1838 for the Coronation of Queen Victoria.
Faithfully conceived after the original crown, the model with a circlet of four cross pattée alternating with four fleur-de-lis, surmounted by four half-arches rising to a cross, the interior fitted with a red velvet Cap of Estate. The hinged upper section opens to reveal a removable glass inkwell with a hinged gilt-metal cover, cast with an image of the young Queen Victoria.
