Description:
A Pair of William IV Ormolu Candlesticks
After a Design by William Bateman II for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, 1834
A striking pair of William IV ormolu candlesticks inspired by William Bateman II's celebrated 1834 design for the royal goldsmiths Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. Each stands on a trefoil-shaped gilt-bronze base raised on lobed bun feet, supporting a foliate-carved stem encircled by three finely modelled silvered bronze swans. The candlesticks are surmounted by leafy acanthus nozzles with integral drip pans, combining refined classical ornament with the naturalistic elegance characteristic of the finest British bronze work of the period.
