Description:
PAIR OF COALPORT PORCELAIN SHELL-SHAPED DESSERT DISHES, CIRCA 1825
An elegant and finely modelled pair of shell-shaped dessert dishes, such pieces formed part of sophisticated dessert services, used for the presentation of fruit, sweetmeats, or confectionery.
Each dish is naturalistically moulded in the form of a shell, the surface enriched with a deep cobalt blue ground and heightened with finely tooled gilt ornament. The reserves are delicately painted with bright floral sprays.
