Fine 18th Century & early 19th Century English Furniture, Porcelain & Old Sheffield Plate Silver

Chamberlain’s Worcester Porcelain Teacup, Coffee Cup and Saucer, Circa 1815. Provenance: Charborough Park, Dorset.

Description:

Chamberlain’s Worcester Porcelain Teacup, Coffee Cup and Saucer, Circa 1815. Provenance: Charborough Park, Dorset. A richly decorated trio comprising a teacup, coffee cup, and saucer, each finely painted and lavishly gilt in the characteristic style of Chamberlain’s Worcester. The pieces are embellished with intricate geometric bands in burnished gilding, set against a striking orange ground densely overlaid with an all-over gilt vermicelli pattern. At the centre of each piece is a finely painted, gilt-framed landscape vignette, individually titled. The saucer depicts “Enniskerry” in County Wicklow, Ireland; the teacup is painted with a View on the Trent; and the coffee cup with Hampton Bridge near Birmingham. These named views reflect the period’s taste for topographical decoration and evoke picturesque British and Irish scenery. The interiors of both cups continue the opulent orange and gilt decoration, enhancing the sense of luxury and visual unity across the set.
