Description:
A SUPERB & LARGE PAIR OF DERBY PORCELAIN VASES & COVERS, CIRCA 1815. Each of two handled urn shaped form, the short waisted neck moulded with gilt anthemion palmettes and flowerheads, and with a white pearl band, the gilt cornucopia handles with rams head terminals. Each body painted with two full colour classical scenes possibly by John Brewer (1764-1816)after Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807). Each scene within gilt band cartouches flanked by scrolling gilt foliage centred by vases and palmettes, the short socle on a square plinth decorated with gilt foliage. Each domed cover similarly richly decorated and with a gilt flowerbud finial. The scenes on one vase represent Cephise clipping the wings of Cupid, & Nymphs adorning a Statue of Pan, the other bears The Three Graces Distressing Cupid, and Two nymphs attempting to wake Cupid, after Angelica Kauffmann. Makers marks of red crowned crossed batons.
