Description: A FINE REGENCY PERIOD ROSEWOOD DRUM TABLE OF RARE SMALL PROPORTIONS. GEORGE IV CIRCA 1820. A superb small drum table of very elegant proportions. The circular leather top surface with traces of original gilt tool work, crossbanded in rosewood, over the frieze inset with four brass strung drawers and four alternate brass strung dummy drawers. One of the drawers is fitted with various original silk covered lidded compartments for sewing accoutrements. The top is supported on an unusual configuration of four turned spindles with brass ringed decoration, and raised on four high hipped scrolled and splay legs, similarly highlighted with brass string and roundels. Terminating in very fine cast and gilded scrolled foliate toe caps with large brass castors. Diam: 29” Height: 29” Provenance: formerly the property of Evelyn Stannus, Kensington. Upon her death in 1939, Evelyn bequeathed numerous antiques and artworks to the Society For The Protection of Ancient Buildings with the proviso that they were displayed in a period house open to the public. This table was on display at the National Trusts Montecute House, Somerset, until released to raise funds for the SPAB.
