A RARE AND IMPORTANT HEPPLEWHITE SATINWOOD SECRETAIRE BOOKCASE OF SMALL PROPORTIONS. GEORGE III CIRCA 1780.
A most elegantly proportioned18th Century satinwood secretaire bookcase of desirable small proportions & of superb quality and design, with overall crossbanding with satinwood & tulipwood and with box and ebonised stringing detail. The domed top over a shelved bookcase with two astragal glazed doors, over the base edged with simulated flute and paterae frieze banding, over a secretaire drawer above three graduated drawers. The secretaire drawer opens to reveal a leathered writing surface and an arrangement of eight short and one long drawers and pigeon holes. All the drawers retain the rare feature of silvered oval and chased ring handles and backplates.
The whole raised on high splay feet within a shaped apron.
