A FINE PAIR OF SILVERGILT ICE SPADES BY WILLIAM ELEY & WILLIAM FEARN, LONDON 1816.

The crest is that of Charles William Stewart, Baron Stewart & Ballylawn. 1778-1854, an Irish soldier in the British Army, politician & nobleman. He excelled in the French Revolutionary & the Napoleonic Wars, after which he became Ambassador to Austria. Married (secondly) Lady Frances Anne Vane in 1819, taking her name. He suceeded his half brother as Earl Vane & 3rd Marquis of Londonderry. He was awarded the Knight of the Garter in 1853 a year before his death in London.
