Description:
A RARE FLIGHT & BARR WORCESTER PORCELAIN ROYAL DESSERT PLATE, MADE FOR GEORGE IV.
This very extravagant service was probably ordered in 1805 and bears the full Royal Arms of King George III. Exquisitely decorated with a deep underglaze cobalt blue with gilded oak leaves & acorns between sprays of laurel. The oak branches probably represent the British Navy (ships were mainly made from oak). As the order for this service in 1805 coincided with Britain’s naval triumph at Trafalgar, the branches take the form of a victor’s wreath around the King’s cipher, the initials GR beneath a crown. The border also features emblems of the Union of the British Isles– a small bouquet of rose, thistle and shamrock. The Royal Arms are executed with a remarkable attention to detail befitting a Royal Service and ensuring the firms continued Royal Warrant.
