A REGENCY PERIOD AMBOYNA & BRASS INLAID SEWING TABLE. CIRCA 1810.

Description:

A REGENCY PERIOD AMBOYNA & BRASS INLAIDSEWING TABLE. CIRCA 1810.

Of outstanding quality and superb rich colour and patination. The rectangular top decorated with a complex floral brass inlay over a dummy drawer and work bag, and supported on finely modelled twin end supports with corresponding floral brass decoration, united by a low stretcher with a central pad foot rest, and raised on splayed feet. The use of the beautifully rich decorative Amboyna veneers (indigenous to South East Asia and the Pacific Islands) is not usually found in English furniture due to the high costs of sourcing it at the time, and consequently appears only in the finest bespoke furniture.
