AN OUTSTANDING REGENCY PERIOD COROMANDEL & GILT MOUNT WRITING AND GAMES TABLE. GEORGE IV, CIRCA 1825.

A splendid example of a multifunctional piece of furniture, crafted beautifully using the finest quality Coromandel veneers and cast & gilded mounts with box line stringing throughout. (Cormandel was ahighly sought after valuable wood from Sri lanka and South East Asia, desired for its hazel brown colour and black striations)

The central square section retains its original tooled leather rising wqriting surface, and is flanked by demi lune shaped lidded ends with gilded & pierced galleries, revealing a fitted interior to the right for writing accoutrements and to the left for games pieces.The writing surface slides away to reveal a back gammon playing board. Under the table frieze another slide reveals a board veneered for chess, which removes and slides into the top surface of the table. There is a further slide with a silked workbox for needlework accessories.The table is raised on lyre end supports upon a stepped oblong platform base and four swept legs with cast gilded acanthus leaf mounts and terminating in gilded hairy paw feet and castors.
