Description: A rare mid 18th Century two handled cup & cover. This piece is from the "First Period" manufacture of Old Sheffield Plate (1750-1790) and is, therefore, one of the most highly sought after collectors pieces. The shaped body is embossed & chased with scroll & flower work with a central cartouche, and is raised on a gadrooned collet foot. The embossed cover is topped with a pineapple finial. George II circa 1760. Motto: Leo De Juda Est Robbro Nostro ( The lion of Judah is our strength) Family most likely to be Warren; Bart; extinct of Little Marlow Buckinghamshire. The cup is struck four times, and is possible by MATHEW FENTON, although similar marks are recorded but unidentified at this time.
