Fine 18th Century & early 19th Century English Furniture, Porcelain & Old Sheffield Plate Silver

A FINE CHAMBERLAINS WORCESTER PORCELAIN CENTREPIECE, CIRCA 1815.

Description:

A FINE CHAMBERLAINS WORCESTER PORCELAIN CENTREPIECE, CIRCA 1815. A magnificent early 19th-century Chamberlain's Worcester porcelain centrepiece, made as part of an elegant dessert service. The piece is formed as a shaped oblong dished bowl, gracefully raised on a spreading oval foot, combining sculptural presence with refined proportion. At the centre, a shaped gilt-bordered octagonal panel is finely painted with a colourful bird perched on a branch within a landscape, executed in vibrant enamels with careful attention to naturalistic detail. This focal scene is set against an elaborate ground of dense gilt vermicelli decoration laid over a rich orange ground, creating a striking interplay of colour and texture. The border is defined by a wide geometric band enriched with a stylised gilt foliate pattern, providing a strong ornamental frame to the composition. This decorative scheme is thoughtfully repeated to the underside of the bowl, where the same geometric and foliate motifs appear, while the richly coloured orange ground and intricate gilt vermicelli continue below, demonstrating the exceptional attention to detail on all visible surfaces. Sumptuous and highly ornamental, this centrepiece exemplifies the opulence and technical virtuosity associated with Chamberlain’s Worcester production, reflecting the grandeur and sophistication of Regency dessert table display.
