Description:
PAIR OF RARE MINIATURE CANDLESTICKS English, Spode, ca. 1815
Bone porcelain with cobalt blue, polychrome enamels, and gilding. This exceptionally rare pair of two-inch miniature candlesticks, or taper sticks, exemplifies the luxury of the English Regency period. The design features elegant flared stems framed by delicately molded beaded pearl borders along the rims and bases.
Decorated in the highly coveted Spode Pattern 2478, each piece showcases brightly hand-painted sprays of English garden flowers set within reserves. These botanical panels are set against a rich underglaze cobalt blue ground, entirely overlaid with tightly spaced, slightly spiralled fine gold lines designed to shimmer under candlelight.
