A Derby Porcelain Coffee Can and Saucer, Pattern 645
Circa 1795–1800
A fine and elegant Derby porcelain coffee can and saucer, attributed to the hand of John Brewer, one of the most accomplished painters at the Derby factory, celebrated for his refined landscapes and botanical studies.
The deeply dished saucer is richly decorated with gilt banding and centres on an octagonal panel enclosing a vibrant arrangement of brightly coloured flowers, framed in gilt and encircled by a continuous foliate wreath. The straight-sided coffee can is complemented by a gilt loop handle and harmonious decorative scheme.
Both pieces bear the Derby factory mark in puce to the underside, comprising a crown above crossed batons, dots, and the letter “D”.
