A Very Large Coalport Porcelain Jug Circa 1820–1825
Of impressive scale and bellied form, profusely decorated with an abundant arrangement of white flowers— including roses, lilies and tulips—delicately heightened with monochrome detailing and reserved against a richly burnished gilt ground. The decoration continues unusually within the inner rim, demonstrating a high level of finish and attention to detail.
Fitted with a large, elegantly swept gilt handle terminating in a stylised leaf form.
The lavish gilding and densely composed floral ornament are employed to striking effect. Pieces of this scale and richness were intended as statement wares, reflecting both technical virtuosity and the taste for display prevalent in the Regency period.
