Fine 18th Century & early 19th Century English Furniture, Porcelain & Old Sheffield Plate Silver

A BARR FLIGHT & BARR WORCESTER PORCELAIN ARMORIAL DESSERT PLATE, CIRCA 1820.

Description:

A BARR FLIGHT & BARR WORCESTER PORCELAIN ARMORIAL DESSERT PLATE, CIRCA 1820. A finely decorated Regency-period dessert plate, the centre painted in full colour with an heraldic armorial bearing, complete with motto beneath within a scrolling banner reading “A Deo Lumen” (“Light from God”). The armorial is enclosed within a gilt-edged roundel, further enriched by a continuous band of finely executed neoclassical gilt ornament.

Encircling the central reserve is a wide white band, boldly decorated with large purple vine leaves interwoven with trailing gilt tendrils, creating a striking contrast between the rich enamel tones and the luminous gilding. The rim is finished with a neat gilt edge.

Family: Ogle, of Ogle Castle Northumberland/Ker or Kerr of Scotland.
