A COALPORT PORCELAIN CENTREPIECE, CIRCA 1825
An elegant and finely proportioned centrepiece, the deep circular bowl raised on a pedestal issuing from a spreading foot. Intended as the focal element of a dessert service, such pieces would have been used to display fruit, sweetmeats, or ornamental arrangements on the dining table.
The exterior is superbly decorated with a sequence of richly gilded cartouches, each enclosing carefully painted sprays of flowers rendered in bright enamels with a naturalistic delicacy. These reserves are set against a striking deep cobalt blue ground. The cobalt ground is further embellished with intricate gilt neoclassical ornament, including fine scrollwork and anthemion-inspired motifs. Diam: 10in Height: 6in
