Description:

A FINE SPODE PORCELAIN KRATER VASE & COVER, CIRCA 1820.

Provenance: Copeland China Collection, Trelissick House, Cornwall

A striking Regency-period pot-pourri vase and cover of classical krater form, the bowl raised on a square plinth base and flanked by applied ring handles. The body is richly decorated with finely painted, thickly enamelled vignettes of rustic figures in pastoral landscapes, reserved against a deep cobalt blue ground. The surface is further enlivened with elaborate gilt ornament, including scrolling leaf motifs and strapwork, while the ring handles are detailed with distinctive gilded scale patterning. The combination of vibrant enamels, sumptuous gilding, and bold ground colour reflects the opulence and technical sophistication of Spode’s early 19th-century production. Marked to the underside: SPODE 3234.
