A VERY RARE MERCURIAL GILT OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE SILVER DISH RING, GEORGE III,CIRCA 1770.
Of waisted circular form, embossed and pierced with foliate & rococo decoration, vacant cartouche.
Pieces of gilt Sheffield Plate, i.e. where the mercurial gilding has been applied to the exterior silver plate surfaces, are very rare. Such items were probably the result of individual requests from customers. Diam:20.5cm (8ins).
