A FRENCH EMPIRE MAHOGANY AND ORMOLU MOUNTED CYLINDER BBUREAU.
An exceptionally fine French Empire style ormolu-mounted mahogany Cylinder-Bureau from the mid 19th century. Of generous proportions and fine construction in solid mahogany and attractive flame mahogany veneers. Embellished throughout with an abundance of finely cast ormolu mounts. A rectangular marble top sits over three drawers to the frieze. The cylinder is decorated with winged victories and a central chariot. It opens to reveal a fitted interior and a pull-out writing surface. To the sides of the desk are further pull-out slides, again fitted with leather surfaces. To the base is a series of short drawers flanking a longer central drawer. All standing on elegant legs with ormolu griffins ending in ormolu lion paws.
