Fine 18th Century & early 19th Century English Furniture, Porcelain & Old Sheffield Plate Silver

A Regency Period Amboyna & Brass Inlaid Sewing/Occasional Table, c.1810.

Description:

A Regency Period Amboyna & Brass Inlaid Sewing/Occasional Table, c.1810.

Of outstanding quality and superb rich colour and patination. The rectangular top decorated with a complex neoclassical foliate brass inlay, over a dummy drawer and work box, supported on finely modelled twin end supports with corresponding brass inlay, united by a low stretcher. The use of the beautifully rich Amboyna veneers (indigenous to South East Asia and the Pacific Islands) is not usually found in English furniture due to the high costs of sourcing it at the time, and consequently only appears on the finest bespoke furniture.
