Fine 18th Century & early 19th Century English Furniture, Porcelain & Old Sheffield Plate Silver

A FINE PAIR OF SPODE BOTANICAL SPILL VASES.

Description:

A FINE PAIR OF SPODE BOTANICAL SPILL VASES. Pattern No. 2004, circa 1815. A finely matched pair of early 19th-century English porcelain spill vases of elegant cylindrical form. Each vase is decorated with delicately applied gilt bands framing alternating zones of pale powder blue and white ground. The blue-ground reserves are richly painted with vibrant, naturalistic flower sprays, alternating with raised (relief)) white floral motifs. The botanical decoration demonstrates Spode’s characteristic precision and artistry, with carefully observed blooms rendered in bright enamels. Originally intended for holding spills—slender sticks used to transfer flame for lighting candles or lamps—these vases exemplify both the decorative and practical sophistication of early 19th-century domestic objects.
