A RARE OLD SHEFFIELD PLATE SILVER SPITTOON, CIRCA 1785.

Of simple form, having a wide everted rim and loop handle. Plated versions of these is extremely rare, being of purely functional form. An example of one is illustrated in the pattern book of Morton & Co.
